Willow asked:

I hate how todays society is so influenced by this crap. Thankfully though, it seems like the influence is dying out. Atleast thats what Ive noticed. Also, Not to sound racist at all but whenever Im reading people post things against rap music, the responses more often than not are “stop tryin to bring down black people, its our way of expression” or “white people hate on rap music”. Im not targeting that certain race even though black people may have been the “pioneers of hip hop” or whatever-there are rappers of many ethnicities.Im pretty sure there are rappers out there who actually rap about something meaningful or personal. But if you listen to the lyrics in rap music and what they talk about, the same old, tired, useless things over and over ex. sex, “bling bling”, drugs, :”gangsta life”, madd fine girls aka hoes, etc. Do you actually think people are going to respect that??
1) My friends and family have talked about this like…twice before. But I dont devote my life to talking about this subject, Trust me. . I know these are random people online but I just wanted to get other peoples opinion too since Ive been reading about it.

2) I know its been said before, but Im giving MY opinion. Is it my fault lots of other people share these views?

2) Im not white. Thats so typical of you to assume.

3) I didnt say all rap is crap. I did say Im sure there are rappers out there that have something meaningful to say. They’re just being drowned out, obviously.

4) Its so surprising that the ones being immature and cursing are the ones who support rap. Influenced by it a little to much, arent we?

Yeah…Thanks.

Emanuel E asked:

As a fan of rap growing up, I wonder why. I can understand about the more contemporary stuff that’s been going on for the past five or so years, but in general, people give hip-hop a bad name. Apart from subject matter, which I am aware of, people get on the style because of the fact that songs use samples of other songs. By that, I mean the beats, but I have no problem with it. Also, people seem to say that it isn’t really music, but we let judges decide on that. If that were the case, then House music isn’t really considered music either, since it isn’t done in melody. Of course, I can understand if someone doesn’t like the genre, that’s fine. But there are other rappers who don’t rap about the cliched subject matter, but about stuff that’s meaningful. Sometimes, I even think that the gangsta rap from the late 1980s early to mid 1990s was better than most of the so-called gangsta rap of the present day. It’s like what I heard before, hip hop has been around for over 30 years and it still gets no respect.
Honestly, there are rappers out there who rap about stuff that has nothing to do with b***hes and hoes or shooting people and such. Try listening to guys like Common, The Roots, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Immortal Technique, or even legends like Run-DMC, Public Enemy, KRS-One, etc.
