What the hell happened to hip hop? These days we have the likes of Mims, Akon, TPain, Neyo, Lil Wayne, Diddy, R-Kelly, Dem Franchise Boyz, and pretty much every other pseudo rappers and R&B singers who try in vain to show the world they are hardened “gangsta” rappers or “thugz”. The music videos are all the same, either stepping out of a nice car in a nice suit into a fancy club, surrounded by pretty girls, or waving their hands all over the place in front of bouncing cars, laden down with tons of jewelry, or lounging in a nice hotel with pretty girls and spraying drinks all over the place.

That’s basically what hip hop has become, nothing but proving you have the women, the cars, the phones, and the jewelry. I hate it. Only a handful of rappers are still worthy of my attention. I’m talking about Common, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, T.I. and a few others.

Other than that I ignore hip hop nowadays, because it doesn’t have a meaning anymore. All these new **** rappers killed the genre.

Can anybody give me some good underground artists to check out….I already know and listen to Pharoahe Monch, Talib Kweli, Dead Prez, The Roots, A Tribe Called Quest, Bootcamp Click, Immortal Technique, Mos Def, MF Doom, Black Ice, etc. But I’m looking for some other underground artists who, like the above-mentioned artists, have substance and meaning to their songs and lyrics. None of that “wannabe gangsta” bullsh*t.

And please, if you don’t know any artists other than Jibbs, Mims, Unk, Huey, Lil Wayne, Young Joc, Crime Mob, and all that other garbage, please don’t answer, because you’re not a true fan of real rap music. lol (I know they’re gonna answer my question anyway)

And a lot of the other artists everyone’s mentioned, I “did” know of them, just didn’t list them. Seems like there’s a lot more “true” hip hop heads here at Yahoo Answers than I thought lol. Sweeeeeeeeeet!!

Y’all have given me a bunch of artists that I haven’t heard of, too, so many thanks, again. I’ll keep the question open and hope to get even more.
